Yesterday, the Gam United Breeders Association (GUBA) and the Department of Livestock under the Agriculture Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in a ceremony held at the Livestock Department office in Abuko. The agreement solidifies and strengthens their working relationship, focusing on animal welfare and well-being. Attendees included government officials, GUBA leaders, and other members who supported the initiative.

Speaking before signing the MoU, Dr. Abdou Ceesay, the director of the livestock department, welcomed the idea of the department’s collaboration with GUBA, saying for the two parties to work maturely – to create a platform to enable them to achieve their common goals.

“We all know that the Ministry of Agriculture is at the forefront of promoting livestock development in the country. We will want to work and give the necessary support to each stakeholder in livestock production,’ he added.

During the meeting, Dr. Ceesay discussed some of the challenges the department faces. He emphasized that more human resources are needed to impact the quality of veterinary services positively. However, he reassured us that the ministry is committed to providing the necessary support to the association. In response, Mustapha John, the President of GUBA, expressed his organization’s dedication to promoting animal health care and ruminant production. He also urged the government to assist in implementing some of their initiatives.
