The National Communications Authority (NCA), the Ministry of Communications, and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are currently discussing with stakeholders in The Gambia to implement the ECOWAS Free Roaming initiative. This initiative aims to reduce telecommunications costs for travelers between Ghana and The Gambia, enhancing communication and economic ties.
The meeting, scheduled to take place from November 19-21, 2024, will culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to facilitate technical and regulatory discussions surrounding the ECOWAS Roaming Regulations, which are anticipated to launch in the first half of 2025.
Prof. Ezer Osei Yeboah-Boateng, the Deputy Director General of the NCA, underscored Ghana’s pivotal role in regional connectivity. He expressed that this partnership will not only promote inclusivity but also stimulate economic growth in West Africa.
