Musa Darboe, Gambia’s acclaimed Nollywood actor and five-time award winner, returned to the Gambia on Friday to a grand celebration. A vibrant crowd gathered to honor his significant contributions to cinema. Darboe took the opportunity to highlight his achievements and advocate for the growth of the Gambian film industry.

Reflecting on his journey since moving to Nigeria, Darboe credited his wife, a prominent Nollywood producer, for his success. He shared his early struggles, including experiences of homelessness and hunger, and emphasized the need for unity among Gambian filmmakers to achieve international recognition. “We must end the hate and grudges among ourselves,” he urged, calling for collaboration to uplift the industry.

Pa Manneh, the Public Relations Officer of the Suso Foundation, echoed Darboe’s sentiments, promoting peace and support for Gambian talent across various sectors, including film. He expressed gratitude for the community’s support for Darboe, highlighting the collective pride in his accomplishments.

Lamin B Bojang from Brufut expressed his excitement over Darboe’s success and the pride it brings to the local community. He encouraged Gambians to rally behind Darboe, noting that his achievements inspire aspiring artists in the country.

As anticipation builds for Darboe’s return, the Gambian film industry stands at a critical juncture, hopeful for increased collaboration and recognition on the global stage.
