A delegation of Gambian National Assembly Members, led by Majority Leader Bilay Tunkara, met with their West African counterparts in Kano, Nigeria, to discuss the socio-economic, political, and security challenges member states face. The meeting included representatives from all Ecowas countries except Burkina Faso, the Niger Republic, and Mali.

The First Deputy Speaker of the Ecowas Parliament, Barau I Jubrin, described the engagement as like bureau meetings between the Parliament’s leadership and the committee chairpersons, along with other principal officers. He explained that the session involved all parliamentarians and guests.

Senator Jubrin stated that the meeting’s agenda covered various topics, including the economy, security, and other challenges member states face. He emphasized that the Parliament’s discussions were not restricted and encompassed everything related to the Ecowas Community and the West African sub-region.

The event in Kano brought together parliamentarians from Nigeria, Benin Republic, Cape Verde, Cote D’ Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. The Ecowas Parliament, also known as the Community Parliament, serves as a platform for representatives of the people of West Africa to promote integration through dialogue, consultation, and consensus.
