The Gambia is set to receive a D10 million grant from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) to tackle the climate crisis and healthcare challenges faced by low- and middle-income countries.

The financing agreement was formalized during the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference held in Baku, Azerbaijan. WHO’s Health Impact Investment Platform, launched by WHO, aims to develop innovative solutions addressing healthcare and climate-related issues. The Gambia is among 14 participating nations.

IsDB’s funding is expected to unlock $500 million in health investments and generate $1.5 billion in concessional loans. IsDB President Muhammad Al Jasser highlighted the significance of this collaboration in strengthening primary healthcare and building resilience against future crises.
