On July 10, 2025, the National Assembly approved a report related to a $30 million oil scandal following an investigation by the Joint Committee of Finance and other committees.
The inquiry revealed 36,935,614 metric tons of petroleum products worth over Two Billion Gambian Dalasi.
During the debate, Hon. Gibi Mballow contested the report’s conclusions, while Hon. Musa Badgie advocated for action against corruption. Hon. Suwaibou Touray highlighted issues like mismanagement and tax evasion.
The Assembly unanimously agreed on the need for a National Petroleum Testing Laboratory to prevent untested oil damage.
Several members, including Hon. Alfusainey Ceesay and Hon. Bakary Badgie, called for accountability and expressed concerns over previous administrative failures.
The report was ultimately adopted, with calls for further investigations into the scandal.
