Gambia and Guinea Bissau Journalists Received Training in Open-Source Intelligence to Help Combat Disinformation

Journalists from The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau participated in UNESCO-backed fact-checking training to strengthen media reliability, promote peace, and fight disinformation across West Africa.

A training session focused on advanced fact-checking was conducted for 30 journalists from The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, facilitated by the Media Academy for Journalism and Communication under a UNESCO project.

Participants, including Ivanira André Tchuda and Famara Badjie, highlighted the importance of information verification and the tools learned for combating disinformation.

Key speakers, including Mrs. Naomi Williams from the Gambian government and Michel Elvis Kenmoe from UNESCO, emphasized the critical role of journalists in maintaining democracy, promoting peace, and ensuring the integrity of information.

The training aimed at equipping media professionals with skills essential for countering false information and fostering a reliable media landscape.
