Musa Banja, a Gambian writer with significant visual impairment, has released his debut novel titled “From Rivalry to Redemption.” He has faced challenges from a young age, including intense eye pain and loss of vision, but remained committed to his education with support from the Gambia Organisation of the Visually Impaired (GOVI).
Banja began writing in 2018, producing poems and motivational articles using a phone and a braille machine. He has retaken the WASSCE and earned credits. He is currently completing his final year at Gambia College, where he is pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Secondary Education and serving as the Information Minister of the Students’ Union. He advocates that a disability does not limit one’s potential and encourages perseverance in the face of difficulties.
