A commitment was made at a meeting in Cairo with Musa Drammeh, The Gambia’s Minister of Fisheries and Water Resources. Elkosayer highlighted Egypt’s recent achievements in aquaculture, stating that Egypt is on the verge of achieving self-sufficiency in fish production and has begun exporting surplus fish varieties, for which Egypt is known as a distinguished producer. He also underscored Egypt’s prominent position in African aquaculture and its global rank as the sixth-largest producer.

Elkosayer provided a detailed outline of potential areas of collaboration, encompassing training and knowledge transfer, technology sharing, fish farming techniques, the establishment of incubators, and fish health management. He took the lead in preparing a memorandum of understanding to formalize these proposed areas of cooperation and facilitate their swift implementation. Drammeh also conveyed his appreciation for Egypt’s support and keen interest in strengthening collaboration in marine fish cages and training, including the dispatch of Egyptian experts to The Gambia.

Hussein Farhat, the executive director of Egypt’s Lakes and Fish Resources Protection and Development Agency, reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast commitment to supporting The Gambia. He highlighted the agency’s preparedness to offer training, expertise, and assistance in diverse facets of aquaculture, including marine cages. Saad Moussa, the Supervisor of foreign agricultural relations in Egypt, and Ambassador Omar Gibril, the Gambian Ambassador in Cairo, attended the meeting.
