Greece and Egypt are committed to an undersea electricity interconnection that will transport renewable energy from North Africa to Europe.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi discussed the 3,000-megawatt capacity cable, which will be nearly 1,000 kilometers long and has EU funding support.
The project, costing around 4 billion euros, aims to transmit solar and wind energy from Egypt and is expected to be operational within five years.
The leaders also addressed regional security and the importance of strengthening EU-Egypt ties, including potential job opportunities for Egyptian workers in Greece.
