A plane carrying Southeast Asian migrants deported from the U.S. arrived in Eswatini as part of a third-country deportation initiative from the Trump administration.
The flight included at least nine deportees, some of whom are reportedly detained without charges. The U.S. claims these individuals are convicted offenders with deportation orders.
Eswatini has a pact with the U.S. to accept up to 160 deportees and has received $5.1 million as part of this agreement. Rights organizations have criticized the program for potentially violating the due process rights of deportees, many of whom are sent to countries with poor human rights records.
