Cuts to U.S. foreign aid during Donald Trump’s presidency could result in an estimated 14 million preventable deaths by 2030, including 4.5 million children under five.
A study in The Lancet indicates that these funding reductions may reverse two decades of health progress in low- and middle-income countries.
U.S. foreign aid has saved over 91 million lives from 2001 to 2021, but an anticipated 83% decrease in funding could lead to approximately 700,000 child deaths annually.
Notably, figures like Elon Musk and Marco Rubio support these cuts, despite worsening humanitarian conditions, such as food shortages in Kenyan refugee camps.
The study’s findings were highlighted during a UN humanitarian aid summit.
