Alain Christophe Traoré, also referred to as Alino Faso, was brought back to Burkina Faso after he passed away in a cell at a gendarmerie school in Côte d’Ivoire, where authorities determined that he died by suicide.
His supporters, along with the Burkinabe government, dispute this finding, labeling his passing as a “villainous murder” and calling for an open investigation. Protests took place in Ouagadougou, where demonstrators demanded justice.
The Burkinabe government has promised that the incident “will not go unpunished,” while human rights organizations caution about the potential for diplomatic strains between Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire.
