President Adama Barrow has underscored the importance of bolstering border security considering recent allegations of police bribery. He asserted that securing the borders is essential for national safety and the protection of travelers, thereby justifying the increased security presence on the roads. This strong stance on border security is intended to make the audience feel secure and protected.

Speaking to Gambians during his constitutionally mandated Meet the People Tour, President Barrow stated that the security forces are responsible for ensuring the safety of border communities. To address misconduct such as bribery at checkpoints, the President urged drivers always to carry the necessary documents to mitigate opportunities for soliciting bribes. He made these remarks during a General Meeting held in Lamoi in the Kantora District of the Upper River Region.

Additionally, President Barrow strongly condemned the unethical practice of traffic officers extorting money from motorists and drivers. He disclosed that some individuals, masquerading as security personnel, have been exploiting drivers in border villages. His condemnation of such misconduct validates the audience’s concerns, and he stresses the importance of holding such wrongdoers accountable, reaffirming his government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the country.
