The Bakau Development Committee (BDC) has invested over four million dalasis in various community development initiatives, including healthcare, education, fisheries, religious support, and other social services.
At the committee’s annual general meeting, treasurer Alhagie Ba Nuwa Touray underscored the positive impact of their initiatives since the group’s inception in 2018.
“Throughout the years, he stated that we have allocated more than four million dalasis to various projects, including education, fisheries, healthcare, and social services,” he stated. “Additionally, we have extended financial and material support to families of those who undertook the backway journey, aiding them in their healing and recovery. We have also assisted widows and bereaved families within the community.”
He reiterated the committee’s commitment to addressing social challenges and enhancing livelihoods in Bakau. A significant contribution from BDC was the donation of an ambulance to the Bakau Health Centre in 2021, which aimed to improve emergency healthcare services within the community.
Badara Yorro Jallow, chairman of the BDC, urged young people to engage actively in the town’s development. “We are aging, and if we discuss development without the involvement of the youth, then something is surely missing,” he remarked. “It is essential for young people to take initiative and lead this movement. We stand ready to guide and support them.” The BDC’s core mission remains to foster peace and unity while promoting sustainable development in Bakau.
