A small village in Senegal is poised to gain access to electricity through a solar microgrid project funded by ChargePoint, an electric vehicle charging company, in partnership with Africa GreenTec. This initiative was financed using carbon credit funds from ChargePoint’s EV chargers in Germany.
The microgrid, which features a mobile solar power system known as the Solartainer Amali, is expected to significantly enhance the daily lives of residents in Keur Ndiangane, who have previously depended on candles and kerosene for lighting.
The installation will provide bright LED lighting, facilitate internet access, and support agricultural activities, promoting economic growth and creating jobs for the local community.
Additionally, the microgrid is designed to be adaptable to future energy demands, allowing for upgrades or relocation to other villages in need. This project is part of a growing trend of African solar microgrids bolstered by various governmental and international funding efforts to expand electricity access in rural communities.
