The furious residents, many of whom are young men, stood their ground to challenge the enforcement as soon as the Police in their root gears arrived. Amid the tense situation, Police had to fire teargas to disperse the angry residents as they got stoned. A defiant white shop owner, who was speaking in Wolof, was arrested for refusing enforcement.

Police spokesman ASP Modou Musa Sisawo described the residents’ reaction as unfortunate.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Police spokesman ASP Modou Musa Sisawo described the residents’ reaction as unfortunate. He said they knew they would face challenges but didn’t expect” boys would gang against us throwing stones.” “That’s not going to demoralize us, he added, because we have an objective, and we must do what is bestowed on the Gambia police forces to ensure their safety and stability.” It is disappointing, and we must register that we expect the Gambia people, especially the youths we know, to be the future leaders of this country. They should participate in anything that’s going towards the development of this country,” he said.
