Tanzania-2025-Election-Controversy

Tanzania’s opposition party, Chadema, has challenged President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s election victory, claiming it was “entirely fabricated.”

Hassan received over 97% of the votes amid violent protests and allegations of human rights abuses, including the arrest of opponents. While the opposition claims hundreds were killed during protests, the UN reports at least 10 fatalities.

The government enforced a curfew and restricted internet access, dismissing the opposition’s claims as exaggerated. Hassan called the election a collective triumph for Tanzanians, while opposition leaders described the election as a coronation. The ruling party, CCM, has been in power since Tanzania’s independence in 1961.
