President Andry Rajoelina dissolved his administration in response to youth-led protests in Madagascar over critical water and electricity shortages, resulting in at least 22 deaths and over 100 injuries.

The protests, inspired by movements in Kenya and Nepal, led Rajoelina to acknowledge public discontent and promise assistance to businesses in a televised speech.

The UN reported casualties linked to security forces, which Madagascar’s foreign ministry disputed. Authorities imposed a curfew and used tear gas to control the situation, posing a significant challenge for Rajoelina in restoring stability.
