Gambia’s Auditor General Modou Ceesay declined a ministerial appointment on September 11, 2025, prioritizing his independent role in public auditing amid calls for stronger financial transparency.

The Auditor General (AG), Mr. Modou Ceesay, wishes to inform all concerned stakeholders that following the announcement of his appointment as Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment by the Office of the President, he has officially responded and respectfully declined the offer today, September 11th, 2025.

Mr. Ceesay is dedicated to serving in his role as the Auditor General and in diligently executing the functions conferred on him by the Constitution of The Gambia, to improve the lives of citizens through public sector auditing.

AG Ceesay solicits the support of all stakeholders in steering the affairs of the NAO and calls for collective efforts in strengthening our public financial management system.
