In Port-au-Prince, Haiti, the event “Dance is Life” brought together twenty dancers to showcase their cultural strength amidst ongoing gang violence.

Organized by choreographer Pascale Durosier, the performance emphasized dance as a vital means of emotional expression and resilience.

The event drew inspiration from the historic Bois-Caiman Vodou ceremony, which played a significant role in Haiti’s slave revolt and subsequent independence.

Durosier highlighted the importance of dance in Haitian identity and empowerment, while acknowledging that approximately 90 percent of Port-au-Prince is currently controlled by criminal groups, raising serious security concerns.
