The Gambia’s Ministry of Agriculture, in partnership with the South Korean government, launched the K-Rice Belt Project on August 26, 2025, with funding from a $5.6 million grant.
The project aims to enhance rice seed production and promote food self-sufficiency, covering seven African nations.
It will establish a 73-hectare rice seed production area utilizing high-yielding Korean varieties, helping farmers access better seeds.
Korean diplomats and local officials attended the launch event.
