The UK is facing a public debate over unauthorized immigration, with demonstrations on August 23 through 24 against immigration policies.
To address the backlog of over 51,000 denied asylum cases, the government plans to establish an independent panel to expedite the appeals process, aiming for a resolution within 24 weeks.
The current situation incurs significant costs for taxpayers, as unsuccessful asylum seekers are housed at public expense. Additionally, a recent court ruling has complicated housing efforts, prompting the government to phase out the use of hotels for asylum seekers.
In the year leading up to June, a record 110,000 asylum applications were submitted.
