Ministry of Health, with assistance from the World Health Organisation (WHO), carried out a training program on August 20, aimed at building capacity for the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG) to improve immunization services in The Gambia.

Sidat Fofana, the EPI programme manager, noted the country’s impressive history of introducing new vaccines over the past thirty years, despite challenges from COVID-19 and other health crises.

Dr. Nathan Bakyaita from WHO commended NITAG’s contributions to the creation of evidence-based immunization policies.

Dr. Alieu Sowe praised the historical achievements in vaccination, which include the country’s early halt of measles transmission and substantial declines in mortality rates among children under five.

The training underscored the crucial role of technical expertise in ensuring the success of immunization initiatives.
