Bai Omar Joof, Head of the Foreign Currency Management Department at the Central Bank of The Gambia, testified on July 14, 2025, regarding forged U.S. dollar notes in a trial involving accused Wilfred Sayee and Jonathan Papa Flomo.
They face charges for buying counterfeit notes and obtaining goods through pretenses. Joof indicated that the counterfeit notes were identified using a currency detector machine after the police submitted them for verification.
He noted that genuine U.S. dollar notes feel softer and highlighted missing watermarks and identical serial numbers as evidence of forgery.
During cross-examination, Joof clarified that he could not confirm ownership of the notes by Sayee and explained that the police had acted legally in bringing the notes for verification.
The case was postponed to July 28, 2025, for continuation.
