The Gambia Alliance for National Unity (GANU) criticizes the National People’s Party (NPP) for significantly increasing election nomination fees, arguing that it restricts poorer citizens from running for office.

GANU calls the hikes (D1 million) for presidential candidates, and other high fees for various positions, a threat to democracy and urges collective opposition from all political parties and independent candidates.

They label the new increases hypocritical, especially following previous reductions after the 2015 increases. GANU advocates affordable fees, calls for an investigation into political party funding, and encourages stakeholders to join a peaceful protest and consider a Supreme Court challenge against the fee hikes.
