Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has declared that “Greece is not an open corridor to Europe,” advocating for a united European response to irregular migration and increased cooperation with Libya.

He stressed the need for urgent EU action while supporting legal migration routes. Greece’s Migration Minister has also taken a tough stance on asylum-seeking narratives.

Recent events include the rescue of over 500 migrants by the Greek Coast Guard near Gavdos and the arrest of eight Egyptian traffickers.

Parliament has passed stricter laws targeting sea arrivals from North Africa, with rescued migrants transferred to reception centers across Greece.
