The joint committee of the Public Finance Accounts Committee (FPAC) and the Public Enterprise Committee (PEC) have recommended a vote of censure against former Petroleum Minister Abdou Jobe and former Police Chief Abdoulie Sanyang, following an investigation into the illegal importation and sale of petroleum products.
Among other areas, the investigation reveals that:
The suspected illegal importation of approximately 36,935.614 metric tonnes of petroleum worth US$30 million by companies associated with Apogee FZC.
Minister Jobe may have misused his position by allowing Apogee FZC to deposit oil at Gam Petroleum, which has adversely impacted local marketing companies.
Jobe allegedly interfered with police investigations, resulting in the release of a key suspect without charges.
Abdoulie Sanyang was criticized for prematurely halting the police investigation and providing conflicting statements.
The Attorney General was urged to investigate the conduct of SIU Commander Pa Alieu Jawara about an intelligence report.
Immediate suspension and criminal perjury charges were recommended against Yoro Jallow of Gam Petroleum for providing misleading information to parliament.
Various institutions, including the Central Bank and the Gambia Ports Authority, were highlighted for their failure to act on an FIU intelligence report.
The committee called for accountability from heads of these institutions and reprimands for legal professionals involved in the matter for neglecting their responsibilities.
