In Mecca, Saudi Arabia, workers replaced the Kiswa, the black cloth cover of the Kaaba, before the Islamic New Year.

The Kiswa, weighing 1.4 tons and made of black silk, features 68 embroidered verses from the Quran with silver threads coated in gold. It takes almost eleven months to create the Kiswa each year.

The Kaaba, located in the Grand Mosque, is the spiritual center for Muslims, symbolizing the house of God and serving as the direction for daily prayers.
