At least 16 people have died in protests in Kenya against police violence and government corruption, with around 400 injuries reported.

Violence erupted in multiple locations, including Nairobi, where demonstrators commemorated last year’s protests tax increases. The unrest intensified after a blogger died in police custody, leading to clashes with police who used tear gas and batons.

The Kenyan government restricted media coverage and internet access to platforms like Telegram. Youth and opposition leaders expressed dissatisfaction with President William Ruto’s handling of economic and police misconduct.

The U.S., U.K., and Canadian embassies have called for peaceful protests, stressing the need for public trust amid rising concerns over corruption and high taxes among young people.
