Tensions rose in Los Angeles as President Trump sent in the National Guard to control protests his immigration policies.
Thousands of people protested, blocking highways and roads. Law enforcement used tear gas and rubber bullets. California Governor Gavin Newsom stated that the deployment was unlawful and accused Trump of exceeding his authority, indicating that he would sue.
On the third day, the protests grew stronger, resulting in 27 arrests. Both Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass criticized the military presence, calling it a provocation. The LAPD noted that unrest often increases after a few days.
