Zambia is mourning the death of former President Edgar Lungu, who died at 68 after collapsing while exercising at home, on June 5.
The government confirmed his death and announced a period of national mourning. Lungu served as president from 2015 to 2021, during which he oversaw major infrastructure projects but faced economic issues.
He lost re-election in 2021 and had recently returned to politics as part of the opposition. People across the country have expressed their sadness, with President Hakainde Hichilema calling it a tragic loss.
Funeral arrangements have not been shared yet.
