Sidi Ould Tah from Mauritania has been elected as the President of the African Development Bank Group. This decision was made during the Bank’s Annual Meetings in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

He received support from the Board of Governors, which comprises finance ministers and central bank governors from 81 member countries. Tah has over 35 years of experience in finance.

He previously served as the President of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa and was the Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance in Mauritania.

Tah will start his five-year term on September 1, 2025, after the current President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina. There were four other candidates from Senegal, Zambia, Chad, and South Africa.

This leadership change is essential for Africa, as the continent works towards the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The Bank Group aims to use its resources effectively to support Africa’s development.
