At the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA 78) in Geneva from May 20 to 28, 2025, important decisions were made to improve global health cooperation. The key outcomes included:

1. The adoption of the first Pandemic Agreement, which establishes a legal framework for coordinated responses to health emergencies and ensures equitable access to vaccines and treatments, particularly for lower-income countries.

2. Advocacy for the needs of people with non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as cancer, during pandemics, with a focus on building stronger health systems and achieving universal health coverage.

3. Approval of a Global Plan of Action on Climate Change and Health to address environmental health risks and an updated plan to reduce the health impacts of air pollution by 50% by 2050s.

4. Introduction of a resolution on integrated lung health, which includes lung cancer for the first time in WHA resolutions.

5. A reaffirmation of the importance of prevention and early intervention for NCDs, including vaccinations for HPV and hepatitis B, to lower cancer cases.

6. Focus on improving access to diagnostics and medical imaging to enhance early cancer detection, especially in low-resource areas.

These developments show a commitment to strengthening public health and prioritizing cancer care amid larger health challenges.
