The Government of The Gambia has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic death of 19-year-old Abdoulie Bah, who was shot by Spanish police in Las Palmas on May 17, 2025, following an alleged attack on a taxi driver with a knife. It has been reported that Bah was experiencing mental distress and schizophrenia.
In response to this incident, Gambian authorities are calling for a comprehensive investigation into the use of lethal force and have conveyed their concerns to officials in Spain.
The Deputy Head of Mission from The Gambia’s Embassy in Madrid will be dispatched to Las Palmas to collaborate with local authorities and community leaders.
Additionally, the Embassy is coordinating with Bah’s family to ensure the repatriation of his remains by Islamic rites. The Gambia is dedicated to protecting the rights of its citizens abroad and will closely monitor the investigation, providing further updates as they become available.
