The National Environment Agency (NEA) of The Gambia is updating the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) law, with support from the West Africa Coastal Areas Management Programme (WACA).

This update aims to refine the 2014 EIA regulations to address environmental challenges, including climate change better. The EIA process follows the National Environment Management Act of 1994 and involves steps like screening, scoping, and monitoring.

Key contributors Barrister Abdoulie Sanyang and Lamin Jammeh emphasized the importance of participant review and a solid framework for sector development.
