Over 18,500 Sudanese refugees have arrived in eastern Chad in the past two weeks due to violence in Darfur, particularly following the bombing of the Zamzam camp.
Many refugees are severely malnourished and traumatized, with reports of sexual violence during their escape. Chad is already hosting 1.3 million refugees and has limited humanitarian resources.
The Zamzam camp experienced its worst attack in 20 years, resulting in at least 400 deaths and the destruction of medical facilities, worsening the crisis.
