Rwanda is currently in discussions with the Trump administration regarding a potential agreement to accept immigrants who are deported from the United States.

Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe indicated that these discussions are still in their early stages, with no details finalized at this time. This comes considering reports suggesting that the U.S. is seeking international partners for the deportation of migrants.

The Trump administration has launched a substantial deportation campaign, which includes the possibility of sending migrants with criminal records to countries such as Rwanda and Libya. Rwanda has strategically positioned itself as a destination for Western governments looking to deport migrants, having signed an agreement with the UK in 2022 to accept asylum seekers.
