The police have announced that they have initiated an investigation into a reported case of unnatural sexual offense (homosexuality) that allegedly took place in Old Yundum on the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025.
According to authorities, the incident involved two males aged 18 and 22. In a statement released yesterday, the police indicated, “Investigations into the circumstances are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as the investigation develops.”
In The Gambia, engaging in homosexual acts is prohibited for both genders, with punishments that can range from a maximum of 14 years in prison to life imprisonment for what is termed “aggravated homosexuality.” This designation includes “repeat offenders” and those who are HIV-positive and are identified as gay or lesbian.
