The European Union has allocated 718.2 million Dalasi (9.5 million Euros) to The Gambia as part of the “State and Resilience Building Contract for The Gambia 4.” This funding includes a fixed tranche of 2 million Euros and a variable tranche of 7.5 million Euros based on specific targets in transitional justice, social protection, and public financial management. EU Ambassador Immaculada Roca I Cortés emphasized the goal of supporting a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic society while promoting gender equality.

Key objectives of the budget support include enhancing the rule of law, improving migration management, strengthening social protection systems, and increasing accountability in public financial management. The program involves strategic policy dialogues and anticipates measures such as technical assistance for public financial management.

Before this disbursement in December 2023, The Gambia received 12 million Euros, with a final disbursement expected in late 2025, potentially raising the total to 14.5 million Euros. Since 2017, the EU has provided over 10.2 billion Dalasi (approximately 135 million Euros) to The Gambia through budget support aimed at state and resilience building. Funding goes to the General Treasury to foster state ownership of the national budget, with both parties engaged in regular dialogues for effective implementation.
