Mullah Morgun, also known as Mouhammadou Niasse, became the target of an international arrest warrant after he disclosed confidential documents revealing that the Senegalese authorities had requested his extradition from Canadian authorities.
The international arrest warrant against Mullah Morgun cited charges of conspiring against the state, engaging in activities that could undermine public security or lead to serious political unrest, incitement to commit a crime, defamation, and putting others’ lives at risk. These charges stem from Mullah Morgun’s public statements since March 2021 in connection with Ousmane Sonko.
According to leaked documents, the Canadian authorities declined the Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs extradition requests, citing the lack of an extradition agreement between Senegal and Canada.
