Senegal summoned the Ukrainian ambassador on August 3, 2024, over a video posted in support of recent attacks against the Malian army and its Russian allies.

The foreign ministry expressed surprise at the publication and emphasized Senegal’s commitment to constructive neutrality in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The ministry strongly stated that Senegal unequivocally rejects terrorism and cannot tolerate any attempt to transfer propaganda related to the conflict to its territory.

The Ukrainian ambassador was reminded of the obligations of discretion, restraint, and non-interference that accompany their diplomatic mission. This follows Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s reaffirmation of support for Mali during a recent telephone call with his Malian counterpart.
