QGroup has donated D2.2 million to the National Coordinating Committee (NCC) for Gambia’s Road to AFCON at a ceremony held at Qcell headquarters in Kairaba Avenue. The group has so far handed a cheque for 7 million dalasis to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

At the signing ceremony, Muhammed Jah, QGroup boss, expressed delight in donating to the country’s football, adding that their wish and aim is to see Gambia succeed in the AFCON due in the Ivory Coast.

He promised QGroup would support the senior team throughout the championship while urging Gambians to take football seriously. “For us in the private sector, [he vowed] it’s our duty, and we know the government cannot do it all. Football is no longer a street game, (but) a serious business, and we should take it seriously.”

He assured the committee of his foundations’ willingness to continuously collaborate with the government through the Ministry of Youth & Sports and the Football Federation to promote sports while calling on other private sectors to come forward and support the National Team.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Bakary Badjie, emphasized the importance of Qcell’s support, saying it’s a step in the right direction. He thanked Muhammad Jah and his group for the donation.

The President of the Gambia Football Federation also thanked QGroup for the support and said that football is a costly sport and more support like this will be needed to help the National team.
