Khel Khom Taekwondo in Fajikunda has promoted its students to belts ranging from yellow to red in a professional test examination held at Fajikunda school grounds during the weekend. Advanced students aged between 9 and 18 undergo disciplinary training to be better people in society as enshrined in the world taekwondo principle.

Speaking to the newly promoted students, Assan Mbowe, the master trainer of the club, highlighted the importance of Taekwondo as a sport of discipline while urging the kids to take their training seriously. “If Taekwondo doesn’t transform you into a peacemaker and good person in society, then you are not one of us because sport teaches us to be good. We should be violent in society; rather, we should be disciplined and respect everyone,” he told the students.

However, he highlighted the challenges facing Taekwondo in the country, such as lack of support, while calling on the government and the private sector to help support the sport financially and morally to keep it triumphant. Assan added that he had to look for donations for test belt examinations due to a lack of financial support for such clubs.

In addition to the above points, the Khel Khom Taekwondo club has existed for more than a decade, with nearly 50 students learning the skills and techniques of Taekwondo. Assan regrets the government and individuals’ lack of support for Taekwondo to establish it as a recognized sport.
