The Vice President, Muhammed Jallow, informed the National Assembly yesterday that this year, 3,387 households and 51,328 people were affected by the disaster.
Responding to a question from the member for Bundung Ka-Kunda, Sulayman Jammeh, on the status of disaster management during this year’s rainy season, the number of people affected by the rain, and the support provided by the National Disaster Management Agency, VP Jallow said the flash floods and windstorms have affected 3,387 households, translating to 51,328 people across the country.
In collaboration with the World Food Programme, he said the National Disaster Management Agency provided food assistance to 1,467 households nationwide. “This includes essential items such as rice, oil, and beans. Each beneficiary receives 50 kilos of rice, 5 liters of oil, 8 kilos of beans, and 2 kilos of salt monthly. Food assistance was done from July to September 2023, covering the entire country as assessed by the needs assessment.
