Husband to face high court judge over attempted murder of wife

Crime detectives have detained a man who allegedly assaulted his wife in an unprovoked attack and is now waiting to face a high court judge for attempted murder. 

Giorgi Sowe attacked his wife at their home in Jalanbang with a dagger – inflicting severe injuries to her legs, the police announced in a statement on Thursday. The victim, it added, suffered multiple severe lacerations to both legs. 

According to the police, the case has already been mentioned at Brikama Magistrate’s Court and is being transferred to the High Court for legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, it all started on Wednesday, 15th November 2023, when paramilitary officers in the Anti-Crime Unit of the Police Force swiftly responded to a distress call in Jalanbang – leading to the husband. He {husband} was accused of assaulting his wife with a dagger that resulted in severe wounds. 

“The unit’s prompt arrival at the scene facilitated the arrests of Gorgi Sowe, who was attempting to flee. Upon the team’s arrival, they discovered the victim, the man’s wife, lying in a critical condition, having sustained multiple severe lacerations to both legs,” said the police. 

The victim received immediate medical attention and was initially rushed to Brikama Hospital. Subsequently, she was transferred to Ndemban Clinic, where she remains admitted for further medical treatment and care.

During the arrest, it added, the suspect was found in possession of the alleged weapon, a dagger, which was recovered from his residence, along with his bed and clothing.

“This distressing incident underscores the importance of peaceful and lawful means to resolve conflicts. The public is strongly urged to seek non-violent resolutions to disputes,” advised the police.
