During a court hearing in the case of Drug Law Enforcement vs. Lamin Jammeh on Thursday, the prosecution presented its case against the accused, who is alleged to have possessed approximately 6 grams and 838 milliliters of cannabis (kush), a prohibited substance. The proceedings, overseen by Your Worship Mendy, featured testimony from police officer Sulayman Bojang.
Officer Bojang testified that on the night of the incident, he and his team were en route to ‘Kancuba’ Kololi when they arrested Ebrima Jallow. According to Bojang, Jallow was found with 36 wraps of suspected kush, which he claimed had been provided to him by the accused. Following this information, Bojang and his team arrested Lamin Jammeh while on their way to Bakoteh Police Station, asserting that he confessed to supplying the drug to Jallow during questioning.
However, during cross-examination, the accused denied possessing any cannabis at the time of his arrest, alleging that his confession was obtained through police brutality. He stated that he was taken to a separate office where he was beaten and coerced into admitting he supplied the kush to Jallow.
In response, Officer Bojang refuted these allegations, insisting that the accused was never subjected to physical force or coercion. The accused highlighted that Bojang arrested him at Apple Tree International Senior School. In contrast, Jallow was arrested in Kololi, suggesting a lack of direct evidence linking Jammeh to the drugs found with Jallow. The court proceedings have been adjourned until November 25, 2024.
