President Adama Barrow has announced an ambitious initiative to construct 500 kilometers of new roads across The Gambia, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s infrastructure.

During a recent site visit to various ongoing road projects in the Greater Banjul Area, Barrow highlighted the importance of decentralizing road construction to ensure connectivity and accessibility across all regions.

The President’s tour included inspections of key road projects spanning several locations, including covered GPPC to Westfield (Jokor) to Abuko; Sukuta to Latrikunda Sabiji; Rev JC Faye Road; Kololi/Senegambia Road Intersection to Touba Sanchaba Road; Kololi Tavern – Bijilo to Brufut; Gunjur Road; Sanyang Road; Ebo Town Road; Sinchu Road; and Brufut, Madiana, Kunkujang Road. He noted that the government is making significant progress with the existing 50 kilometers of roads under construction, facilitated by the National Roads Authority (NRA) and other partnerships.

Barrow underscored the critical role of infrastructure in national development, drawing comparisons with countries like Dubai and the United States to illustrate the transformative power of good roads. “No government can develop a country without building good roads. As The Gambia is a developing nation, we are very aggressive with our agenda of road infrastructure development,” he stated.

The President expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far, acknowledging the positive feedback from citizens who have felt the impact of improved road conditions in their daily lives. He urged contractors and consultants involved in the projects to enhance their efforts to meet completion deadlines, reinforcing the urgency of the road development agenda.

Barrow’s commitment to infrastructure development reflects a broader strategy to boost economic growth and improve living standards throughout the country. With plans to decentralize road projects, the government aims to ensure that every Gambian community benefits from better connectivity and enhanced access to essential services.

As the country moves forward with this ambitious road construction plan, the Barrow administration is poised to make significant strides in transforming The Gambia’s infrastructure landscape, ultimately contributing to the nation’s overall development goals.
