The Ministry of Land has suspended all Bakau Cape Point wetland developments. In a statement released to The Standard, the Ministry expressed concern over unauthorized activities continuing in this ecologically critical area despite previous warnings issued in a press release on May 10, 2024. The Ministry emphasized the importance of protecting the wetland due to its significant ecological value and warned that any unauthorized actions threaten its long-term sustainability.

To address these violations, the Ministry has formed a specialized task force to thoroughly investigate the encroachments. The task force will assess the extent of unauthorized activities and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. The Ministry has issued a clear directive for all individuals and entities to immediately cease any ongoing construction or development activities within the wetland area. It’s crucial to note that non-compliance will result in severe penalties, including legal action and the removal of unauthorized developments at the violators’ expense.

The Ministry has reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting natural resources and enforcing land management policies. This is not a mere warning, but a firm stance, and any further disregard of these instructions will lead to strict consequences.
