President Adama Barrow has promised to visit the ‘abandoned’ Brusubi market amid the growing hardship of the women in the community and its surroundings to do their business smoothly.
At a news conference held at State House, he said: “I have spoken to senior government officials so that we can look into (the issues) of women marketers at Brusubi.
However, reacting to the complaints of business owners whose shops and stalls got demolished, he said that the markets have enough space to accommodate businesses, just as he responded to criticisms of owners whose roadside shops and structures were pulled down.
Barrow said he understood the plights of the affected people on business market space restructuring but added that “we cannot govern this country by doing things the way we want it. We have to follow due process [and likewise] respect the law.” He continued to say that “some women sitting on the roadside doing business have available spaces in some of these markets. If you go inside the markets, the markets are empty. The main thing is these women tend to compete for customers,” he added.
